2020 Box Program Nanoose Edibles Farm Community Support Agriculture (CSA) Weekly Box Program
Box programs are amazing and it brings income to the farmer before the harvest season. This allows the farmer to plan how much to plant and orders the seeds accordingly. The customer comes to the farm and picks up the box with unique items that they might not have tried before. The farmer is happy as the food that they planted will go to a wonderful customer and the next crop can be planned for. It is a wonderful relationship between the farmer and the customer.
It is also a bit of a challenge with the weather and crops doing their own thing. Sometimes summers become too hot with little water and the bugs taking over the crops. As per everything in life, it does come with challenges.
This year, we are keeping our staff on the small side as we focus on the u-pick operation that has been successfully run with many customers coming to pick their own produce. Generations of grandparents and grandkids come on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to pick their own food. This allows us to keep the cost of harvesting down to a minimum.
That being said, we are aren't opposed to having a box program but harvesting for the box takes all day Thursday and all day Friday as the boxes need to get put together. Depending on how many boxes, it might require two people to harvest.
If our existing staff had to harvest for the box program, there wouldn't be time to get new crops into the ground and weeding to take place. There is a possibility if we have too many crops that a weekly box program could happen, but again, the harvesting time would have to be taken into consideration.
We are open to suggestions! Email email@example.com
We will still be harvesting for the store for Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the season.
